  • HVG.hu, April 16, 2012, Hungarian - A romagyilkosságok áldozatainak is emléket állíthat egy berlini emlékmű: "Évek óta befejezetlenül áll a roma holokauszt áldozatainak emléket állító emlékmű Berlinben, miután az építkezés politikai viták és anyagi nehézségek áldozatává vált. Az emlékművet most civil összefogás keretében fejeznék be. A kezdeményezés mögött állók szerint a mai napig nem kellően feltárt roma holokausztra való emlékezés különösen fontos lehet az Európában újjáéledő idegengyűlölet és a magyarországi romaellenes atrocitások idején."

Juni die Roma-Ältesten (aus verschiedenen Ländern) für eine öffentliche Zusammenkunft vor dem bislang immer noch nicht fertig gestellten "Denkmal für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Sinti und Roma" zwischen Bundestag und Brandenburger Tor einberufen."

  • Goethe Institute, April, 2012, English - Pictures and Images of the Sinti and Roma : "For years the construction site between the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate has lain idle. Most passersby never learn that, in 1992, the German parliament passed a bill to build here a “Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Murdered under National Socialism”, because the information panel is blocked by a site fence. This state of things seems symptomatic of the prevailing lack of knowledge and ignorance about the Sinti and Roma, who are estimated to be the largest minority in Europe, amounting to 12 million people. The young Hungarian art historian and Roma activist Tímea Junghaus wants to broach this scandal about the memorial by means of an intervention. At his and the upcoming 2012 Berlin Biennial’s invitation, a Sinti and Roma “Council of Elders”, including survivors of the concentration camps, will meet at the site and, by their presence, demonstrate for the right to have what happened to them recognized."

Auf dem Zaun vor der Baustelle finden sich  über 50 Plastiktafeln, auf denen über Angriffe auf Roma und Sinti in europäischen Ländern in den letzten Jahren informiert wird. Die Lage der Sinti und Roma in Deutschland dokumentiere der Streit über das Mahnmal selbst, findet die Bürgerinitiative. „Der Zustand des unvollendeten Denkmals ist doch das  beste Beispiel für die fortgesetzte Missachtung und Diskriminierung.  Da brauchten wir keine zusätzliche Tafel anbringen“, sagte ein Mitarbeiter."
