Artist MO DIENER in Budapest, ERCF Residency

Jul 28, 2025

Mo Diener, Swiss artist and member of the Roma Jam Session Art Collective (RJSaC), is in residence at the European Roma Cultural Foundation (ERCF) headquarters in Budapest for the month of August 2025. Her stay marks a distinct and timely moment of focused, solo research rooted in the politics of memory, archival justice, and Roma visibility. Diner inhabits ERCF as a singular thinker practitioner, drawing from her extensive experience in performance-based research, queer-feminist critique, and critical institutional work. Her time in Budapest is not about production for spectacle; it is about a deeper process of listening, walking, collecting, and tracing the embodied geographies of Roma presence and erasure in the city’s shifting terrain. Diener engages the ERCF space as both a working studio and a living archive—where materials, conversations, and silences become part of a larger choreography of resistance and remembering. This residency also connects with her ongoing work with RJSaC, whose public performances and institutional interventions across Europe have redefined Roma artistic agency and aesthetics. Here in Budapest, however, Diener’s focus is more intimate: experimenting with performative sketches, archival fragments, and poetic scores that ask how Roma memory can be held differently—beyond the ethnographic, beyond the symbolic.Through her residency, ERCF becomes not just a host but a site of critical encounter—between body and archive, between silence and speech, between past wounds and future imagination.
